The initiative will also generate up to 1,000 new tech professionals. In addition to its new course, the government hopes to improve the labour market by making it easier to access skills in the digital economy. However, the criteria for MYWiT are subject to change.

One of the main goals of the initiative is to create a more inclusive digital society in Malaysia. It aims to build digital literacy among the rakyat to facilitate access to more high-paying jobs and MSMEs. In fact, the initiative has been a success for some companies, including Karuna (Sarawak) Enterprise Sdn Bhd, which faced a shortage of staff as it expanded its footprint.

MDEC has launched a new initiative - MYWiT - to train more than 1,000 new tech workers by 2025. This programme targets roles in digital tech and services. The initiative supports Malaysia's goal to create 500,000 new jobs by 2025. The enhanced MYWiT programme enables hiring companies to apply for jobs created between 5 April and 30 April 2022. The MDEC has streamlined processes, set criteria for applicants, and designed an incentive structure based on feedback.

The Digital Skills Training Directory lists 300 courses - in areas like data science, FinTech, cybersecurity, software development, and animation. The courses are also tailored to the growing DBS industries and position Malaysia as a desirable location for digital investments. The program is backed by government and private sectors. The participating employers must offer jobs for at least 12 months to unemployed Malaysians. Unemployed citizens include recent graduates, retrenched employees, and others.

MDEC Mywit University has recently rolled out its new training incentive scheme, MyDigitalWorkforce Work in Tech. This programme, an extension of MDEC's #MyDigitalWorkforce Movement, aims to reskill the talents of the future and subsidise businesses at the same time. To qualify for the incentives, companies must enroll at least one candidate in a Career Upgrade course on MDEC's Digital Skills Training Directory.
